Bellevue Forest Property Values

The original homes of Bellevue Forest were the then-popular Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, and English Cottage Styles. The majority of pre-war houses, however, are Minimal Traditionals and basic or modern ranch houses. Cropping up infrequently to keep things interesting are a few houses of International or Art Moderne styles. Multi-family homes were kept at bay by the original covenants. Whatever the style, residents appreciate that houses feel as if they were planted carefully among the trees. Common among pre-war subdivisions, curvilinear streets were designed to preserve mature trees and the forest atmosphere that first attracted the Grunwells to the land.

Bellevue Forest History

Bellevue Forest was developed at the end of the Depression by two local brothers, John and Charles Grunwell, and named for their family home. Their father, Alfred, had been a lieutenant and then a captain during the Civil War, and made a habit of getting lost in the woods in the vicinity of the Vanderwerken Farm: the home of his wife to be, Jane Vanderwerken. The brothers drew up several covenants regarding the neighborhood that restricted its use. Those that restricted who could own and develop property have thankfully long since expired. Others were well considered and helped create a community aesthetic in the first two decades which has had some influence on all development since.

Bellevue Forest Transportation & Location

Bellevue Forest has no Metro Station, but it is nearest to the Ballston-MU Metro on the Orange and Silver lines, which is accessible via N Glebe Rd (VA-120), providing access to the District of Columbia; and to I-395 to the south, toward Alexandria.

Bellevue Forest is bounded by George Washington Memorial Pkwy to the north and east, N Randolph St to the east, and Military Rd to the south and west.
