Barcroft Property Values

The oldest standing homes in Barcroft were built in 1892, when the area was called Corbett. In 1903, the land was renamed and somewhat rearranged. In the 1960's a fair number of townhouses and apartment buildings began to crop up, but the vast majority of Barcroft residences are single-family homes built before 1980. The eclectic mix still contains at least one Sears, Roebuck & Co. kit home. The Barcroft Shopping Center opened shortly after World War II on the site of the neighborhood's first retail site: Oscar Haring's Country Store.

Barcroft History

The Arlington Mill, built by George Washington Parke Custis was unfortunately destroyed as a casualty of the American Civil War. Thanks to the efforts of Dr. John Woolverton Barcroft, a physician and inventor, a new mill was erected on its foundations and was said to utilize the largest mill wheel on the east coast. He operated another mill further west, for which Lake Barcroft is named.

Barcroft Transit & Location

Barcroft has no Metro station, but it is nearest to the Virginia Square Metro on the Orange and Silver Lines. The neighborhood is defined by two major highways: Arlington Blvd (Route 50) to the north and Columbia Pike (VA-244) to the south. Both of these connect to I-66 and I-395, which provide good access to the District of Columbia and Alexandria.

Barcroft is bounded by Arlington Blvd to the north, S George Mason Dr to the east, Columbia Pike to the south, and Four Mile Run to the west.
