Arlington Heights Property Information

The land itself has a rich history of residency and community dating back before the American Civil War, but what really gave it the shape it has today was FDR's New Deal. The initiative created countless federal jobs which in turn created a huge demand for housing in the Washington DC area. The majority of Arlington Heights housing stock consists of single-family homes and numerous duplexes. Dominant styles include farmhouses and "center-hall" Colonials. The neighborhood also has one highrise apartment building and a garden-style condominium. Among several features that makes Arlington Heights unique, one of few remaining Lustron enameled steel DIY homes still stands within its bounds.

Arlington Heights History

Arlington Heights is a neighborhood formed not by speculation and development common to so many others in Arlington, but rather by process of elimination. "Arlington Heights" was a broad-strokes name given to a portion of the large Custis Estate. As time went by, various other parcels of that land were sold off and developed and are now known as Penrose, Alcova Heights, and Barcroft, among others. The neighborhood now known as Arlington Heights was simply the area that hadn't been renamed.

Arlington Heights Transportation & Location

Arlington Heights has no Metro station, but it is nearest to the Pentagon City Metro on the Blue and Yellow lines. The neighborhood is defined by two major highways: Arlington Blvd (Route 50) to the north and Columbia Pike (VA-244) to the south. Both roads connect to I-66 and I-395, which provide good access to the District of Columbia and Alexandria.

Arlington Heights is bounded by Arlington Blvd to the north, S Walter Reed Dr to the east, Columbia Pike to the south, and S Glebe Rd to the west.
